تُدفع الغازات إلى فرنٍ به خام الحديد، على درجة حرارة تتراوح بين 800-900 درجةٍ مئوية، ثمّ ينتج الحديد الإسفنجي: fe 2 o 3 +co+2h 2 → 2fe+co 2 +2 h 2 o. تزال السيليكا الناتجة بواسطة المخبث كالحجر الجيري.
